What is a consultation?

A “one-off” appointment at a location of your choice with a clinician from Yellowbridge.

A forum that provides a calm thinking space and a chance for a reflective discussion.

A regular way to advise and guide practitioners in all areas of their work with a child or young person.

What are the aims of a consultation?

These will be varied but include:

Enabling practitioners to understand a young person’s psychological ‘make-up’ through using psychological expertise to unravel the complex and often confusing details about a child’s past and their current presentation.

Advising practitioners on strategies to engage and work with a child or young person’s needs, based on this more thorough ‘mapping’.

Helping practitioners deal with the often stressful and distressing experiences of working with vulnerable and complex children and young people.

Why come for a consultation?

Perhaps practitioners are getting stuck in working on emotions and behaviours with a child or young person?

Practitioners may be trying out different ways of working and would like advice from specialist mental health professionals?

Maybe practitioners are concerned about the effect of the past on a child or young person?

Often young people are resistant to direct therapy. Regular consultation can provide ‘indirect’ psychological interventions to a child or young person when practitioners are deeply concerned about them.
